Milo Nosal
NOSAL, Miloslav (Milo). March 23, 1939 (Choceň, Czechoslovakia) to November 9, 2018 (Calgary, Alberta, Canada). Milo Nosal passed away peacefully in his Calgary home on 9 November 2018 at 79 years of age. Milo was born in Choceň, Czechoslovakia, to Vilém and Maruška Nosal. The oldest of 3 boys, Milo studied composition at the Prague Conservatory of Music and was an accomplished pianist, flautist and clarinetist. He earned his MS (1961) and PhD (1967) in Mathematical Statistics from Charles University in Prague before embarking to Canada in 1968 in search of adventure and opportunity. Milo was Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Calgary from 1969 to 2013. He founded Statscon Statistical Consulting Co., serving as president and chief scientist for nearly 3 decades. RIP Dr. Nosal! I just recently learned of his passing. He was a memorable professor from my undergraduate statistics classes, and he will be greatly missed.
